(1) Florida vs. (3) Oregon
St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - In an effort to match the program's single-
season record for victories, not to mention continue their run towards
defending their 2006 national championship, the Florida Gators face off against
the Oregon Ducks in the Midwest Regional Finals from the Edward Jones Dome in
St. Louis this afternoon.
The top-seeded Gators, who are now 27-12 all-time in the tournament, defeated
UCLA quite convincingly last year for the title, 73-57, marking the only
previous meeting for the squad against a Pac-10 program during the tournament.
On Friday night, the team started out a bit shaky but still managed to bounce
back with a 65-57 triumph against the Butler Bulldogs in the regional
semifinals. The win was the seventh in a row for the Gators and moved them to
19-1 in the postseason over the last three years. Although, the 65-point effort
was the lowest point total for the school in more than a month when they
defeated LSU by a score of 63-49. In fact, it marked just the fifth time this
season Florida, which has one of the top scoring margins in the nation (+17.9
ppg), was limited to less than 70 points in a single game.
This is the first-ever meeting between these two programs in men's basketball,
with the winner moving on to Atlanta next week to compete in the Final Four.
